Seaford papers

I was delighted to see on the newspaper placards this morning, "Seaford street drinking breakthrough" and "Comedy legend buys house in town". I was looking forward to quaffing Sauternes and exchanging bon mots with Stephen Fry in the High Street. Sadly it seems the comedy legend is in fact Jimmy Tarbuck and the street drinking breakthrough means less not more drinking in the streets. Too bad.

Twenty Thousand Streets Under The Sky

Patrick Hamilton's Twenty Thousand Streets Under The Sky  is to be shown on Friday on BBC 2 at 9 pm . It was previously shown on one of the digital channels, but we are digital have-nots in Seaford.
I also stumbled across the Newsnight Review discussion of it after its screening on a digital channel.
After my holiday near  Hunstanton, I am tempted to retire there and run Patrick Hamilton and P. G Wodehouse  literary tours.

This is the answer to my prayers for some way of linking to books other than sending people to Amazon.

It has limitations of course: there seem to be very few UK libraries taking part. So using OCLC's example search for the Da Vinci Code (though I'm sure no reader of this blog would want to), it only found a copy in one library,  at US Air Force Europe, RAF Lakenheath, which I suspect is not open to the public.
But if there were to be wide participation in this, particularly by public libraries, it could be useful beyond words. When the database includes sufficient useful UK libraries, I'll set about changing my sidebar typelists to use thsi rather than Amazon.
