I've mentioned before that I try to improve my French by reading Friday's edition of Le Monde, which includes Le Monde des Livres. I've found their coverage of library issues consistently good. This week my eye was caught by an article about US libraries, chiefly Seattle:
Aux Etats-Unis, la crise atteint aussi les bibliothèques
Seattle's impressive new library, designed by Rem Koolhaas and opened in 2004, along with all 25 of their branches, shut down completely between 31 August and 7 September. A week's total closure was considered preferable to making cuts all year round.
