I'm not sure quite what this means but, thanks to a tweet from @chrisinwales, I see that the MLA has put out a call for consultants to look into the situation in Swindon, where the council has been trying to close several libraries, including Old Town Library.
'MLA would like to commission a consultant to undertake an analysis of data around SBC Library service, the ongoing feedback from the service’s ongoing consultancy process and best practice from around the country to develop a sound business case around the immediate challenges SBC faces and to enable development of a robust library strategy and vision', they say.
Stripping away the management speak, I think they must be looking for a way for Swindon to back down gracefully. With public expenditure cuts imminent, there's no doubt public libraries are in for a rough ride. The Swindon campaigners show that successful resistance is possible.
