I was looking forward to trying out Europeana, the portal launched yesterday to offer 'multilingual access to two million digitized books and other items of cultural and historical significance held in over 1000 institutions in the 27 EU states;' and touted by many as a rival to Google's digitisation plans. But I either got a 503 Service Unavailable message or the more informative one below:
I wonder at this. A launch like this should, if the publicity has gone according to plan, generate a lot of interest, very probably more than the service will have on a day-to-day basis. Did no one anticipate this?
