My public remind me that I have yet to pronounce on the House Of Commons Culture, Media and Sport
Committee report on Public Libraries. or indeed on the Laser Foundation report. The reason is I haven't read them in sufficient depth to make anything close to a definitive statement (not that that stops certain correspondents on the lis-cilip Jiscmail list).
But I will make one observation: it's striking that the Committee report actually shows a better grasp of the issues than the Laser Foundation one. This is paradoxical at first sight, as the Laser Foundation report was written by a group of librarians, whereas the Committee are all MPs. But in fact it's a result of the thorough lobbying and preparation that CILIP put in to it.
In the world of UK library blogs, according to a quick Technorati-this, Panlibus has covered both, the CMS one here and the Laser Foundation one here. Elsewhere Redwood City Library mention it.
