I swam 666m, not because I want to frighten the superstitious, but because that's what twenty lengths of the Chichester Westgate pool adds up to. I have an evening meeting on the first Tuesday of every month, so I have made it my practice to go for a swim between finishing work and the time of the meeting.
It's not great. The pool is crowded at that time, two lanes are taken up with lessons, and other swimmers are jammed into a third lane, nominated as medium, but used by everyone from speed-freaks to dawdlers, and a general swimming area. Nevertheless, at the end I feel better for it.
