It is a complusory part of my marathon training that one of my long runs shoudl be an out and back run towards Brighton. I chose today for twenty miles, the longest distance I'll run before 10th April. This route crosses the Greenwich meridian in Telscombe, where a 1930s monument stands on the cliffs to show precisely where 0° 0′ W is. It was a hard run, in mist and rain when I set off, though the weather changed for the better on my return trip. My feet hurt, and hurt still. The cliffs above Newhaven are not for the nervous; in place erosion means that the edge is too close for comfort. Considering I was tired from a poor night's sleep (we had most of the 17-year-old population of Seaford staying with us last night), I think it was a decent effort.
