Yesterday I ran approximately five miles on the cow run route with Claire; in our footsteps three others followed later on, Clare, welcomed back to the campus and to the running club, and Jana and Leila.
The hill was hard work, but there'll be no hills on Sunday.
Ian Snowley, CILIP president, has been running a series of ten 10k races throughout the summer to raise money for his presidential charity, the appeal to help the renovation of the Hikkaduwa Library in Sri Lanka after the Indian Ocean tsunami of Christmas 2004. At first he was recording times above 50:00 for the distance, but in recent races he has been creeping nearer my times, with 48:41 at Billericay and 48:22 at Dorney Lake. My personal best for 10k, recorded at this very race in 2005, is 45:25. I am determined to beat Ian, not least because he is the younger man and I see this as a test of my virility. Indeed, if I lose, I have promised to double the donation I have already made to the appeal. You too can support Ian: http://www.cilip.org.uk/specialinterestgroups/bysubject/government/appeal/snowley.htm
