I ran the Brooks Brighton 10K today, with over 2,500 others, in strong winds, though the rain held off until we had finished. At the start I had the pleasure of the company of running chums Claire and Lou, both of whom ran good races, though I failed to find Jana, but see she did it in 52:50. We started into the wind, but turned at 1.5k to run westwards the length of the front to the King Alfred Leisure Centre, then turning back into the wind, and the run eastwards was long and hard work. My plan had been to run the first half slightly below the target pace, and the second a little faster, but I abandoned that in view of the wind, and just tried to keep a good pace going. In fact, though when I looked at the Forerunner as I ran I seemed to be hitting the right pace, I wasn't fast enough for a personal best.
According to the Forerunner:
Time 50.04 (the official clock agrees)
Distance: 6.21
Average pace: 8.04 (best 5.44)

Ian Snowley and Sue Westcott, chief of his supporters, pictured here with all Ian's medals for his 100k, made up of eight 10ks and two 5ks. I was a minute faster than him, but am making a further donation to his presidential charity, the appeal to help the renovation of the Hikkaduwa Library in Sri Lanka after the Indian Ocean tsunami of Christmas 2004. I also discovered we had consecutive numbers: 783, in my case, 784 in his. What can this mean?
