I think this is magnificent, paisley taken to god-like heights. Not everyone who saw it as a #tieoftheday was as impressed.

Four more midsummer ties

This tie was worn at the conference dinner at Exeter. By Austin Reed, it's a good serviceable solid coloured tie.

A tie by Hilditch and Key fot the last day of the conference. It stood up well to two ghastly train delays, better than its wearer.

Paisley seemed appropriate for the launch of a new collection of poems by Jeremy Page, In and Out of the Dark Wood. It was a beautiful early evening on the University of Sussex campus, and Jeremy read to us as we stood on the grass outside Language Centre.

Elephants. How did I end up with so many elephant ties? This one is by Cordings, and saw me through an unutterably tedious meeting.

Two day's ties

I'm a little behind, so please allow me to combine Thursday's and Friday's ties into one cosmically significant post.

On Thursday I wore this:

It is another variation on the paisley theme, this time a Lewin tie, tie-makers who I think have become a bit too big for their boots. But this is a favourite of mine.

Friday's tie was knitted; I'm never sure about knitted ties. They were all the rage among the art masters who taught me in the sixties. Whether they work as well on a librarian in a new century is debateable.

Paisley again

Friday's tie and I return to paisley. This one uses madder, showing the characteristically subtle tones of that dye. I bought it from Kent and Curwen's shop on the corner of Piccadilly and St James's, which closed some years ago.
