I inherited this tie from my father. Its rectangular ends are unusual; for no very good reason I associate this style with America.
I inherited few ties from him. For work he relied on a BMA tie or his Downing tie which struck the right notes of medical gravitas. In his wardrobe there was a wild tie in the 1950s painted style, depicting a parrot. It amused us greatly, though I never saw him wear it. It would have not been suitable to wear while delivering an unfavourable diagnosis.
