Derivation
The term cravatomancy is a neologism, a compound word derived from the French cravate, neck-cloth and the Greek μαντεἱα, divination, hence telling the future through ties. The ancients did not wear ties, as far as we know, so the term emerged when Sweder noticed the blue and yellow tie I wore on election day, 6 May 2010, and thought it foretold a Tory-Lib-Dem coalition.

First tie of 2011

The renaissance of #tieoftheday, and hence of this blog, is explained by the fact that in the exercise that ended in redundancy last summer I didn't get round to wearing bow ties.
I have now resolved to wear nothing but until all have been shown to the world.
For my first day back, I chose this. It's one of my favourites. I thought it was a Turnbull & Asser, but it turns out to be by Hackett.
