There's fine judgements to be made when choosing a tie to wear when speaking in public. While it should please the audience, it should not distract from one's oratory. So I chose this to wear when addressing a meeting organised by the London JISC Regional Support Centre on managing e-resources for HE in FE.
After the meeting I took myself along Jermyn Street where the sales are in full swing. In the basement, where tourists come to admire Churchill's siren suit, were the ties in the sale, a huge table with ties of every shade and pattern imaginable. The choice was bewildering. Did I buy anything? Wait and see.
